I'm going to break a cardinal rule of blogging and I'm going to go right ahead and point out the fact that I HAVE NOT BLOGGED IN SOOOOOOO LONG!!! In fact, I had removed the blog entirely from the navigation menu from our website because I knew that blogging was not going to be a big priority for me in 2018.
But 2018 is over, Friends, and I have so many events I want to share with you. And I want to share them in a way that goes beyond the pretty pictures we post on Instagram. I want to share the stories of the clients we fell in love with and the amazing vendors we get to work with and the ridiculous behind-the-scenes stuff that doesn't show up in photos.
Early in 2018 we reached out to Bethany from Grey Loft Studios to see if she could help us capture a few of our 2018 events. She agreed and we decided that Sarah and Scham's wedding was the perfect candidate for our first wedding shoot. Since it was being held at Le Belvedere we knew the lighting would be phenomenal and the space itself is gorgeous.
Sarah reached out to me in February about her May 2018 wedding. She had so many beautiful ideas about how she wanted her wedding to look. She knew she wanted the space to feel fresh and romantic and she wanted mixed metals for a bit of an industrial feel.
For the next few months, Sarah and I went back and forth by phone, email, and even on FaceTime showing mock-ups, discussing ideas, and trying to work out all of the details. Since Sarah was planning everything long distance we were never able to sit down and sort everything out in person. She was also swamped with other projects (like writing exams for school among other things...).
(SIDE NOTE: I've learned that this is not at all uncommon. Most of our clients seem to be juggling major life events like graduating, moving, buying a house, starting a new job, or having a baby WHILE they're also planning their wedding. You guys are all nuts! And I LOVE it!)
Early in March, Sarah told me that she'd found her dress and she sent me this photo. HOLY CRAP! Right?! PS: This was months before the Royal Wedding so Meghan Markle totally stole this classic look from Sarah. Also, let's be honest, Sarah wore it SO MUCH better!
After seeing the dress I knew where we needed the decor to land. It needed to be classic, timeless, and unbelievably elegant. It had to have just the right amount of decor... but not too much. The tables couldn't be stuffed or overdone but they had to be stunning in their thoughtful simplicity.
YES! Sarah's dress set the tone for the rest of the design from that point forward and we both fell in love.
Sarah confided in me that she'd never been one of those girls who dreamed of the day she'd get married. She had never pictured herself in a flowing white gown and she hated being the centre of attention. And yet, here she was planning this elegant day and she was obsessed!!! She fell in love with the process. In fact, Sarah was planning a second wedding event for her family back home - TWO WEDDINGS! - and she was loving all of it!
(SIDE NOTE: Watch out, Sarah! That's how so many of us got sucked in to this industry, haha!!!)
We loved how everything came together and we were so grateful to Bethany for capturing the space so beautifully for us.
Sarah, thank you for choosing to work with Sage and for entrusting me to help bring your beautiful vision to life. I wish you and Schams endless love and happiness. You will always be welcome here should you ever want to hang out and play with flowers & pretty things ;)
